Sustainable Sausage Fest - 6/24

 

Who: LADIES! Just kidding, this Sausage Fest is definitely guy-friendly.

What: CUESA's 3rd Annual Grill Fest

Where: CUESA Kitchen under the North Arcade of the Ferry Building, SF

When: June 24th, 2010 / 5:30-7:30p

Why: Sausages from seven local chefs (ie: Chris Constentino from Boccalone) and beers paired by members of the SF Brewers Guild (ie: Thirsty Bear, Beach Chalet, 21st Amendment).  

Cost: $30 ticket buys you mini sausage and beer tastings from each chef. Proceeds go to the CUESA Farmer Scholarship Fund to help promote food sustainability.

SF Underground Market - 4/16

  

Who: San Francisco locals interested in an alternative "market" experience. 

What: SF Underground Market. A market and a live show, all rolled into one. Think a farmers market, but at night, with food and drinks!

Where: SomArts Cultural Center, 934 Brannan St. (btwn 8th and 9th St) map it

When: Friday, April 16th 2010, 5-11pm

Why: Purchase the likes of jams, sauces, wines and produce made by local purveyors. Enjoy live music by Debbie Neigher. Attend live demos on bread making, seed saving, and home brewing.

Food for Thought Book Club - 4/28

 

Who: Locals interested in reading and sharing their views on all things food.

What: 2nd book club meeting

Where: Private residence, Nob Hill *

When: Wednesday, April 28th - 6:30pm

Why: Learn the story of Chez Panisse, Berkeley's famed restaurant, through the eyes of founder, proprietor, and sometime chef, Alice Waters.  

Cost: Club is Free! 

Book can be purchased at a 15% discount at Books Inc. (Chestnut St.) with the mention of this book club.

Alice Waters and Chez Panisse 

You can't tell the story of Chez Panisse, Berkeley's famed restaurant, without relating that of its diminutive founder, proprietor, and sometime chef, Alice Waters. This is what Thomas McNamee does most handily in his Alice Waters and Chez Panisse, a chronicle that begins with the seat-of-the-pants opening night of the "counterculture" venture in 1971, and ends 35 years later with Waters's restaurant an American institution.

Food from the Heart, Slow Food SF 2/12

Who: Come one, come all, to Slow Food SF's 7th annual Food from the Heart event.

What: Shop for your valentine while enjoying San Francisco's scenic waterfront. Merchants, restaurateurs and Napa Valley vinters will be offering chocolate samples, hors d'oeuvres, and wine tastings. You can also expect tango and salsa dancing and a classical music quartet for your listening pleasure.
